Tarzan

Animated Adventure MPAA:G

The latest and greatest from the mind of Disney -- the epic story of the king of the apes.

Well, Laura liked it -- so it gets the nod from the 4 year old crowd. I got mildly annoyed with Rosie's voice after a while, but don't most people. I thought Phil Collins' music was a very welcome touch -- I guess I'm just not old enough to think that Elton John is the ultimate cartoon score writer (unlike the critic who writes for infobeat, who felt the exact opposite as me). There was a big ruckus raised over the lack of color (so to speak) in the production, but if Tarzan had had contact with an african tribe, he wouldn't have needed to discover his humanity now would he -- he'd have already been exposed to it. Besides, the same people would have griped about the way the Africans were represented if they had been in the film. The big concern for this film is the violence -- cheetah killing apes and humans, human killing cheetah, human killing ape, human killing himself -- there is a very dark undertone to this whole film. My 4 year old didn't catch it, but I'm sure older kids will. The film is still very enjoyable (better than some of the other recent offerings), but remember the dark side -- oops, wrong movie. Sorry.
